A's go 2-1 in Burlington
tournament
The A's were one of twelve teams
competing in the Burlington tournament this weekend. In the
first game they beat Milton 21-4 behind a strong hitting attack
and aggressive base running.
In game 2 against the Richmond
Hill Phoenix, the A's jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but the
Phoenix battled back to take a 12-7 lead going into the sixth
inning. The A's mounted a sixth inning rally, but came up
short, and ended up with a 12-9 loss.
Game 3 was a must win for the A's
to have a shot at making it to the Final Four on Sunday. Behind
strong pitching, and solid defense the A's beat Burlington 7-2.
Despite posting a 2-1 record, the
A's did not progress to Sunday play as they lost out in a
tiebreaker to Oakridge, who allowed fewer runs per innings
played.
All in all, it was another good
tournament for the team as they displayed a "Never say die"
attitude throughout. Next weekend they'll be travelling to
Cleveland, Ohio, to battle against some strong teams from the
US. Good luck A's!

Oakville A's off to 7-2
start
The A's have raced off to a strong
start to begin the season. While they started the season with a
13-6 loss to Brampton, they bounced back and have won each of
their games against Burlington, Milton and Waterdown. Their only
other loss of the season was against Brampton, as well. One of
the key factors to the team's success has been aggressive
baserunning and solid pitching from all members of the staff.
The team's hitting and defense have been steadily improving.
A's post 1-2 record at
Niagara Falls tournament
The A's played in their first
tournament of the year in Niagara Falls on June 10th and 11th.
Their first game was against Windsor who beat the A's 7-3 as the
team had trouble mounting any sort of offense threats against
the two Windsor pitchers.
On Saturday, they were pitted
against the Brampton Braves, who they suffered their only two
losses of the year against in divisional play. They had to win
this game to have any chance of progressing to the Final Four.
The team entered the game with a tough task but were determined
to hand Brampton its first defeat of the year. The team
received strong starting pitching from David Rankin who
bounced back strongly from an injury he suffered in the Windsor
game. The A's bats also woke up and the team jumped out to a
lead. Thomas Radigan relieved Chili and held the strong hitting
Brampton team back. Backed by solid hitting and great
defensive plays throughout the game, the A's posted a 12-6 upset
of Brampton.
The A's needed to win Game 3 against
Vaughan to advance, but lost the intensity that they showed in
the Brampton game and suffered a 10-4 defeat. Brampton had
previously beaten Vaughan, however Vaughan bounced back in the
finals to beat Brampton and win the tournament. While the A's
had a tough draw in this tournament, playing in a bracket with
the two toughest team's in the area, they proved to themselves
that they could compete..but they need to focus and avoid big
innings from the other teams.
Let's see how the A's apply their
learning's from this tournament when they play in the Burlington
tournament, June 24th-26th.
